Dr. Syed Alam Now Offering Care in Hillsdale
HILLSDALE, Mich.—Hillsdale Hospital announced today that Dr. Syed Alam of Vascular Health Center in Battle Creek, Mich., is now providing vascular care and surgery at Hillsdale Hospital. He will see patients once a week at Three Meadows Medical Building in Suite 140 and will perform any necessary surgeries at Hillsdale Hospital, saving patients the time and expense involved in traveling outside the community for care.
“Expanding my practice to Hillsdale brings much-needed care to the community,” Alam said. “Vascular care is critical in most cases and should never be delayed. My hope is that by expanding our practice in Hillsdale County, we will be able to provide necessary vascular surgical care in the patient’s own backyard.”
Through this partnership, Alam will work with the Hillsdale Hospital team to also provide inpatient evaluation and emergency room consultations. When necessary, he will also perform surgical procedures just down the hall in the hospital’s operating room.
“We are energized and excited for our partnership with Dr. Alam, who is already treating patients in our OR here in Hillsdale,” Rachel Lott, chief communications officer, said. “He understands how important it is for patients to have access to high-level specialty care in their own community, and is joining in our efforts to do that here in Hillsdale.”
Examples of the types of care Alam will provide include:
- Aneurysm surgery, both endovascular stent, graft and traditional open surgery
- Stroke prevention with carotid artery intervention
- Peripheral arterial disease management with treatment of leg pain and wound healing
- Both medical and surgical management of all venous problems including venous hypertension, chronic venous reflux and blood clots
- Full spectrum of care for hemodialysis access, including creation and maintenance
Alam is a board-certified vascular surgeon and has been practicing in Western Michigan since 2012. He is affiliated with Western Michigan University and Michigan State University.
Alam earned his medical degree from Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan. He completed General Surgery residency at St. Mary’s Hospital at Yale University School of Medicine in Waterbury and New Haven, Conn. He went on to complete his Vascular Surgery fellowship at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tenn.
