Upcoming community blood drive is open for registration
Hillsdale Hospital will host a community blood drive with the American Red Cross at Hillsdale United Brethren on December 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
To sign up online, visit redcrossblood.org/give, then enter the appropriate zip code, or call Hillsdale Hospital’s Infection Control Officer Randy Holland at (517) 437-6218 to learn more.
“We’re excited to provide this opportunity to donate blood,” said Jeremiah J. Hodshire, president and chief executive officer. “It’s another way we’re giving back to our community and directly aligns with our values of responsibility, empathy and commitment.”
Blood is routinely transfused to patients with cancer and other diseases, premature babies, organ transplant recipients and trauma victims, according to the Red Cross.
“Donating blood doesn’t take long,” said Holland, “But it can have a lifechanging impact on patients who need blood transfusions. We encourage eligible donors to join us at this blood drive and make a difference for patients in need.”
Donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, B negative and A negative. According to the Red Cross, type O negative is the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone, and is often used to treat trauma patients.
