Caring Through Crisis: Shelly’s Radiology Story

Waiting for medical test results is an isolating experience when you don’t have the support of a compassionate care team.

When Shelly Rockafellow came to Hillsdale Hospital for a CT scan, she felt anxious about the unknown, but the radiology team gave her the support she needed to know she wasn’t alone. After additional testing, she learned she had a mass that had previously gone undetected. Shelly was shocked and desperate for answers, but her care team at Hillsdale Hospital walked alongside her through each step of the process.

“Ashley in radiology is amazing,” said Shelly. “The radiologist read my report [and] I had the results before noon the same day. Everyone treated me with kindness and caring. You don’t get that personal care [elsewhere] like you do at our local hospital.”

The radiology department scheduled Shelly’s follow-up test nearly a week earlier than expected. When the test results came back, Shelly was relieved to learn it was a benign anomaly and she didn’t need to be concerned.

Because of the team’s diligence to provide access to all the education Shelly needed, her intimidating health scare turned into a positive care experience.

“I’ve just had good things to say,” said Shelly. “I’ll sing their praises and absolutely let them know, because you don’t hear that often enough.”
