Stop the Bleed initiative was launched in October of 2015 by the White House and the Department of Homeland Security. Stop the Bleed is a national awareness campaign and call to action for citizens, bystanders and family members to be trained, equipped and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before a person suffers serious blood loss up to and including death.
Training the private sector and non-profit organizations puts knowledge gained by first responders and our military into the hands of the public to help save lives. Uncontrolled bleeding can result from everyday accidents to disasters and often first responders are far away. When every minute counts, citizens can be trained and will possess the skills necessary to stop a bleed in their home, community or place of employment.
Hillsdale Hospital will be offering free community classes under the supervision of trained personnel who can provide these lifesaving skills. Similar to CPR or AED use, improving the awareness of what citizens can do in such emergencies will decrease the likelihood of a poor health outcome or even death.
Hillsdale Hospital sponsored staff and local law enforcement to attend “train the trainer” classes providing them an opportunity to become instructors in this important community program. Hillsdale Hospital will be hosting various classes throughout 2018 which are free of charge. The class size, due to the training curriculum, will be limited to 25 people per class.
