Hillsdale Community Health Center has joined a regional Telestroke Network to provide faster stroke detection and treatment services to our patients. The Telestroke technology will allow neurologists and surgeons to assess patients and conduct consultations with patients from our hospital to a ProMedica stroke specialist hospital.
Duke Anderson, President & CEO states; “We join this network as a continued commitment to our patients ensuring that we offer the latest technology in patient care.” This network allows HCHC physicians and providers to link via interactive media with ProMedica hospitals in Toledo Ohio and to speak directly with their team of physicians and surgeon specialists. It will be used on patients who are experiencing stroke like symptoms or who had a known stroke and were brought into our Emergency Department.
A state-of-the-art portable unit allows for a real time face-to-face consult with the specialists once a patient has presented at the ER with symptoms such as arm numbness, changes in speech and physical appearances. Not only can this network help diagnose stroke but it can help in the treatment and monitoring of stroke victims.
HCHC joined this network in part because the Toledo Hospital was named the recipient of the Healthgrades Stroke Care Excellence Award in 2013, Ranked among the Top 5% in the Nation for Treatment of stroke in 2013, Ranked among the Top 10 in Ohio for Treatment of Stroke in 2013, and a Five Star recipient for treatment of stroke for 8 years in a row (2006-2013).
“We are very pleased to have Hillsdale Community Health Center join the ProMedica Telestroke Network”, says Kelley Joseph, regional stroke coordinator. “The number of stroke patients is expected to increase over the next decade due to the larger population of people over the age of 65. Our collaboration with Hillsdale and other area hospitals will allow us to provide more convenient, efficient and coordinated care close to home.”
HCHC is excited to implement this new technology allowing us to continue providing quality patient care during critical health events. Training sessions were held during the week of August 6 and will continue through the month of August with a launch of the new network in September.
