Hillsdale Hospital and American Red Cross Requesting Donors at Upcoming Blood Drive

Hospital accepting all blood types at upcoming drive

Hillsdale Hospital will host a community blood drive with the American Red Cross at Hillsdale United Brethren on Tuesday, February 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All blood types from eligible donors will be accepted.

To sign up online, visit redcrossblood.org/give, then enter the appropriate zip code or sponsor code Hillshospital.

“When our community comes together to donate blood, it makes a real difference in the lives of patients who are often at their lowest,” said Jeremiah J. Hodshire, president and chief executive officer. “Intervening to ensure blood transfusions can continue to happen directly reflects Hillsdale Hospital’s dedication to our values, including responsibility, empathy and empowerment.”

Blood is routinely transfused to patients with cancer and other diseases, premature babies, organ transplant recipients and trauma victims, according to the Red Cross.

“This is our second blood drive in four months because we can’t ignore the need,” said Randy Holland, infection control officer and director of ancillary services. “We’re grateful for how our community showed up for the last drive and we want to continue providing a space for that generosity to impact more lives.”

Donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, B negative and A negative. According to the Red Cross, type O negative is the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone, and is often used to treat trauma patients.
