“We continue to encourage our community to make a difference by donating blood,” said Randy Holland, infection control officer at Hillsdale Hospital. “It’s vital to the wellbeing of our community and other communities across the nation to supply our blood banks with the resources they need.”
Blood is routinely transfused to patients with cancer and other diseases, premature babies, organ transplant recipients and trauma victims, according to the Red Cross. Donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, B negative and A negative. Type O negative is the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone, and is often used to treat trauma patients.
“Hillsdale Hospital is dedicated to equipping our healthcare team with everything they need to save lives and improve our community’s health and wellbeing,” said Jeremiah J. Hodshire, president and chief executive offer. “We are now holding regular blood drives to make sure blood transfusions are ready the moment patients need them.”
