HILLSDALE — A bigger, better, brighter, fully stocked gift shop is open for the perusal of Hillsdale County residents at Hillsdale Hospital. Kathie Ward, gift shop manager said the response from the community has been overwhelming.
“Everyone has been impressed, saying that it is a beautiful facility,” she said.
The gift shop, which is now located next to the cafeteria, opened March 1 to allow for the renovation of the lab services as you enter the hospital.
Jeremiah Hodshire, vice president of organizational development said in an earlier interview, that the state of the art lab will allow the hospital to serve patients in a more private setting. Since moving to its new location Ward said the gift shop has seen an increase in traffic. She credits the increase to being located next to the cafeteria.
The extra space has allowed the shop to expand its line of merchandise, offering something for everyone. The shop now features an expanded baby section, kitchen novelties, gifts for men and more.
Along with gift the shop also carries flower arrangements prepared by Smith’s Flowers in downtown Hillsdale. Ward said the store’s merchandise is constantly changing.
She also strives to sell one of a kind items, which can’t be found at other boutiques around town.
The shop, which is open six days a week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays is operated by a dedicated group of Hospital Auxiliary volunteers. Currently there are 18 volunteers who work three hour shifts.
“We are always looking for additional volunteers,” she said. “Our volunteers are valuable.”
