Congratulations to our Spring 2024 Extra Inch Award winner, Christina Monroe, an ultrasound technologist from our radiology department! Going the “extra inch” is doing something above and beyond what is expected in service to a patient or their loved one. Their actions and/or words impressed you and truly made the patient or their loved one feel important and cared for in a way that had a special impact or stood out.
Christina was nominated by a patient who was moved by her kindness. When the patient told Christina about driving out of the way to have a special kind of ultrasound done, Christina went out of her way to make trips to the alternate facility so she could learn how to do the ultrasounds. This allowed the patient to receive the care she needed locally instead of having to drive to a different county.

Spring 2024 Extra Inch Award Winner
“A patient at Hillsdale Hospital mentioned that Christina had driven all the way to Kalamazoo to learn how to do the ultrasound she needed for her baby. She was considered high-risk and had to travel each week to Kalamazoo for an ultrasound. Chrissy drove there to learn how to do it, so she could continue to come to Hillsdale for her weekly ultrasound.”
Nomination by Mary Carpenter
“My husband and I have been traveling to our high-risk OB in Kalamazoo bi-weekly to have a special ultrasound performed. Chrissy found out that’s what we’ve been having to do, so she took the time to travel to Kalamazoo to learn exactly how to do the Doppler ultrasound. We now only have to travel once a month to Kalamazoo and weekly to see Chrissy to ensure we have a healthy pregnancy for the last 13 weeks. Thank you, Chrissy, so much for going the extra mile to help us and our family!”

Elise Allen, RNCMA, Hillsdale Health & Wellness
Spring 2024 Extra Inch Nominee
“In Elise’s day navigating a very busy clinic with walk-in, primary care, new employees, new providers, and adding a new service line, Elise manages to keep first things first. An elderly patient presented at Hillsdale Hospital’s emergency room and after waiting, left without treatment. Elise began advocating for this patient with genuine concern. Elise was very concerned that the patient left the ER without treatment and used her resources to advocate, clarify and get the patient in for the much-needed assessment with an available provider so that an appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan could be identified. Without Elise’s involvement, this elderly patient would have continued to suffer in pain and decline without medical intervention. Thank you, Elise, for juggling your responsibilities and role and in the middle of your busy day prioritizing our patients who are unable to appropriately advocate for themselves. I appreciate your heart for our employees and patients!”

Tracey Rardin, Human Resources
Spring 2024 Extra Inch Nominee
“I was a previous employee leaving in 2016. My mom and I are here because my dad is in the ICU with heart troubles. We went down to have some lunch in the cafeteria. Sandy, Pamela and Jenny recognized me and we were chatting. Tracey paid for my mom and me’s lunch. It was so very thoughtful of her and we appreciate it so very much! We didn’t get to thank her. I just wanted to be sure you knew that she made our day, even though she didn’t even know us!”

Hillary Zimmerman, RN, Bediako Birthing Center
Spring 2024 Extra Inch Nominee
“Hillary went the extra inch to make sure I didn’t leave with unanswered questions. I struggled with breastfeeding and I was able to reach out to the OB and she got me in no matter what time it was! She made me feel comfortable and sat and talked with me while trying to figure out how to get baby to latch better. After a few times of having her help me I left there with confidence. My little one is now 5 months and we are still breastfeeding and for that I am very grateful for her!”
