Summer 2024 Extra Inch Awards

Congratulations to our Summer 2024 Extra Inch Award winner, Kamryn Gittings, a CNA in our McGuire & MacRitchie Skilled Nursing Facility! Going the “extra inch” is doing something above and beyond what is expected in service to a patient or their loved one. Their actions and/or words impressed you and truly made the patient or their loved one feel important and cared for in a way that had a special impact or stood out.

Kamryn was nominated by her coworker, Brandi Revers, LPN. Brandi noticed that Kamryn was always going above and beyond to take care of residents’ rooms, taking the time to scrub bathrooms, clean curtains and ensure each resident was comfortable in their space. Even when a duty doesn’t fall within Kamryn’s job description, she still takes it on with a positive attitude.

“Every time I work with Kam, she is ALWAYS doing something extra. The most recent is that she was on her hands and knees with bleach wipes, scrubbing bathroom floors, walls, toilets, room floors, etc. She took down room curtains and cleaned them all for our residents. One resident in particular thought her room was stinky, and that was how it started. After she did that room, top to bottom, she continued. She is always making sure residents are taken care of, she is always making sure that the little things that are “not her job” are completed. She does it with a bubbly attitude, a smile on her face, and love in her heart!!!!
Nomination by Brandi Revers

Also nominated were Nichole Ellis, DO, Pediatrician; Sheryll Gemmill, RN, Behavioral Health Unit; and Scott Hubinger, FNP, Hillsdale Health & Wellness.

Nichole Ellis, DO, Pediatrician

Summer 2024 Extra Inch Nominee

“On behalf of one of the NICU teams at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan, we want to nominate Dr. Ellis for the ‘Extra Inch’ award for her incredible work in resuscitating an infant transferred to our care. Dr. Ellis went above and beyond what would be expected with the limited resources. She acted quickly and competently, and those actions are responsible for saving this patient’s life. We would like for her to be recognized for her excellence and know that we appreciate her wonderful, prompt care.”

Scott Hubinger, FNP, Hillsdale Health & Wellness

Summer 2024 Extra Inch Nominee

“I had the privilege of working with [Scott Hubinger] last night for a few hours at HHW and all I can say is WOW! He is an EXCEPTIONAL provider and a true pleasure to work with. Scott knew I was out of my comfort zone but routinely checked on me, ensuring that I had everything I needed as well as allowing me to bounce questions off of him throughout the evening. He is kind, compassionate, and extremely knolwedgeable. I truly enjoyed working with him and look forward to working with him in the future…He is a major asset for our community and patients.”

Sheryll Gemmill, RN, Behavioral Health Unit

Summer 2024 Extra Inch Nominee

“Sheryll is always going above and beyond when it comes to caring for and educating the patients on our unit, no matter how difficult it is sometimes. She is a helpful and positive influence on our unit and ensures things run smoothly. I just wanted her to know how greatly appreciated she is by her co-workers…She drew two patients that had labs ordered. These patients were anxious about the draws and fearful of not sleeping well, so she got it done so they could lessen their anxiety and get a better night’s sleep. Sheryll also knew that by leaving these draws until morning it would give me five draws, which is doable but would have made for a busy morning for staff and patients alike. She helped out the patient and her coworker. There have been other times I’ve seen Sheryll come in early to help the day shift RN with admissions so the patient care goes smoothly. A couple weeks ago, she handled some family members with professionalism and care…Sheryll goes above and beyond at work and is a true asset to our unit.”
