Hillsdale Hospital, in conjunction with Hillsdale Surgical Group (HSG), offers bariatric medical weight loss surgery to include laparoscopic gastric sleeve resection, and the laparoscopic adjustable banding as part of a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of obesity.
Laparoscopic Gastric Sleeve Resection and Adjustable Gastric Band Surgery Overview
The laparoscopic adjustable gastric band (LAGB) is a silicone ring that has an inflatable inner balloon. The band transitions to a silicone tube that connects to an access port, which allows post-operative adjustments in the band tightness. The band works by tightening around the upper part of the stomach, which decreases hunger and the amount of food that can be eaten.
Laparoscopic Gastric Sleeve Resection is a procedure where 75-80 percent of the gastric volume is reduced and a narrowed “Sleeve” of stomach, shaped like a banana, remains limiting the volume of food intake and speed of eating.
The LAGB procedure is minimally invasive, adjustable, and reversible. Laparoscopic surgery offers patients improved outcomes that may include less postoperative pain, a shorter hospital stay, and fewer infections. Patients recover overnight in a deluxe private suite.
Hillsdale Hospital’s bariatric patients receive thorough multidisciplinary education and screening prior to surgery as well as follow-up after surgery to ensure success. Hillsdale Hospital’s bariatric surgery program has a special bariatric support group open to those that have had bariatric surgery or are thinking of having the bariatric surgery. This group is facilitated by the bariatric surgery coordinator and dietitian. The group provides patients with small group interaction and nutritional support to help ensure successful outcomes.
Hillsdale Surgical Group has been performing bariatric medical weight loss surgery at Hillsdale Hospital successfully for many years.
Pre-Surgery Medical Weight Loss Clinic
For those interested in the Gastric Sleeve surgery or LAGB for weight loss, we offer free seminars on a monthly basis. Each seminar is conducted by one of the bariatric surgeons and provides details about the surgery and expected outcomes. There is plenty of time to ask questions. In addition, there are post-op bariatric patients at the seminars to answer your questions about their experience. A representative from Hillsdale Surgical Group is available at the seminars to give insurance information regarding your coverage for the surgery. Check the Hillsdale Hospital Calendar of Events for seminar dates, times, and location and a step-by-step on how to prepare for surgery.

Weight Loss Surgery Patient Stories
There is a multitude of happy and healthier patients who have had bariatric surgery at Hillsdale Hospital. Meet some of these patients below.
Cindy (Hillsdale, MI)
“I had been overweight for over 20 years. I tried all the diet plans. My weight was up and down and, in the end, I weighed more than when I started the plan. I heard about the Lap-Band procedure through a friend, who had it done and looked great! After finding out her secret, I checked on getting the surgery for myself. In my opinion, this is the best weight loss procedure out there. If you’re struggling with your weight, this surgery will solve your problem. You’ll look and feel better. The staff at Hillsdale Community Health Center and Dr. March’s staff were great, and their follow ups are great, too. I am so glad I did this and so is my husband. Having the Lap-Band surgery is one of the best decisions I have ever made.”
Rick (Hillsdale, MI)
“The use of the Lap-Band has truly given me back my life and the freedom to enjoy it. The only regret I have is…I did not do it sooner.”
